The History of American Excelsior

Founded in 1888, American Excelsior boasts a rich history in the packaging industry.

For more than 133 years, American Excelsior Company’s philosophy has remained the same: deliver quality products in a timely manner. Since the company’s inception, the products have changed, but AEC’s philosophy has remained constant.

1888

The Excelsior Wrapper Company was founded in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

1905

Rice Lake Excelsior Company incorporated by H.W. Selle.

1920's

American Excelsior Company starts producing cotton batting.

1929

Excelsior Wrapper Company and H.W. Selle Company merge to become American Excelsior Corporation.

1940's

America Excelsior Company begins producing excelsior pads.

Early 1950's

American Excelsior Company receives trademark for Curlex®.

1950's

American Excelsior begins manufacturing foam rubber products.

1963

American Excelsior Company invents Erosion Control Blankets (ECBs) with Curlex® I.

1988

American Excelsior Company celebrates 100 years of success.

1995

American Excelsior Company’s Earth Science Division formed.

1996

The opening of the Earth Science Division’s ErosionLab®.

2005

American Excelsior Company’s Recyclex® Erosion Control solution is patented.

2006

Launch of ErosionWorks®, free design software.

2010

Amexcoat™ foam coating process developed
