The New Must for Packaging: Flexible Foams

Flexible foams are divided into different types and usage. Common flexible foams used for packaging purposes are polyurethane foam and polyethylene foam.

Polyurethane foams are open-celled foams that are used usually for sofas — furniture for the comfort they provide, cushioning, and are also used in beddings and packaging. Business that focus on protecting their products in the delivery process can go for flexible foam for their packaging needs.  It is often used for extremely sensitive products such as computer parts, fruits, electronic parts and jewelry. Depending on the products, polyurethane foams are created in different level of densities and firmness. Some benefits of using flexible foam for packaging are it is lightweight, water resistant, and shock resilient. Most of the time, these flexible foams are cut according to the shape of the product or customized it in different structure such as convoluted form, and end caps foams just to name a few. In addition, Flexible foam’s anti-static feature makes it the desired packaging option for electronics parts.

Just like polyurethane foams, another flexible foam used for packaging are polyethylene foams. Polyethylene forms have closed-cell construction, which makes it also ideal for packaging purposes. They are also lightweight and durable. They are resistant to water. They have high resistance to chemical and moisture and are able to absorb shock and provide vibration dampening. Often usages of polyethylene foams are for medical tools and equipment, electronic parts and sporting goods. Its shock-absorption performance allows it to protect the product and returns back to its form after the impact. Apart from that, its anti-static property comes in handy when transported goods are electronics parts, which are sensitive to electro-static charges that may damage the product.

There is no guarantee that products are delivered securely and undamaged at all times. In circumstances wherein the products are placed in jeopardy, the packaging helps put the damage at minimal risk.  Choosing the right flexible foam for the packaging needs could do a lot for the business, and gives a peace of mind while their products are in transit.
